Student Council came to bless our doorway for the new year. We enjoyed hearing the story of the 3 wise men visiting Jesus.
We used a giant number line and hopped forward and backward to help us solve addition and subtraction problems.
This year for Christmas, the first graders celebrated with a Happy Birthday Baby Jesus party. Mr. Zapinski brought us in cupcakes and we sang happy birthday. We also enjoyed hearing the story of the nativity. We ended our celebration with a game of pin Baby Jesus in the manger. We hope all the children enjoyed their own stuffed Baby Jesus that they got to take home!
This year, as part of our school's Lenten service project, we participated in a canned food drive. First graders donated more cans than any other class! We celebrated our generosity with a pizza party!
In honor of Veteran's Day, the first graders used their hand prints to help create an American Flag. We then asked the rest of the school to help us finish our flag by sending in the names of veteran's written on stars. We were so glad to honor the men and woman who have fought to keep us safe!
Our field trip to see the play, "Dragons Love Tacos" was so much fun! We were first to arrive and enjoyed front row seats!
Halloween fun! We "trick-or-treated" at each room in our hallway. Each teacher had a fun activity planned. We ended our day with a parade through the school!
We loved pumpkin exploration day! We spent the whole day in the center room learning all about pumpkins. We learned about their life cycle, looked and touched the parts of the pumpkin, measured it, weighed it, and tasted it. We even took the raw pumpkin we tasted and backed it into pumpkin pie muffins. Each student took a turn adding ingredients or mixing. The muffins turned out delicious!
To help us learn the different animal classifications, we got to have our hands on fish to check out what makes a fish a fish.
The Jog-a-Thon is a great opportunity for us to get fit, have fun, and raise some money for our school!
We acted out the story of 5 Little Monkeys to help us practice taking away. We also got to act out several addition stories to practice putting groups together, and counting how many there were in all.
Seed investigation!
More center room fun!
We had so much fun at the Farewell to Summer picnic. We enjoyed a yummy hot dog lunch with our 8th grade buddies while we soaked up the sun and warm weather!
In the Science Lab, we compared the traits of living and nonliving things by looking at gummy worms and real worms.
We learned a lot from our bullying prevention talk with Jeff Veley!
This year, the First Graders are lucky enough to have their own discovery center room! We have had a blast so far getting to be hands on and explore what we are learning about!
We enjoyed using our sense of touch in the Science Lab to help us learn about things.
Find-A-Friend Bingo!
Put on your ears and say "Cheers!" It's time to have a great year!
First day of school fun! We really enjoyed drinking our "Jitter Juice" to get rid of our first day jitters!
